Walkways and treads

Kenway raised perforated sheet and raised expanded mesh, held in stock and made up into stair treads, walkway panels and platforms to your sizes.

Two surfaces

Kenway or raised mesh

Two anti-slip surfaces, both held in stock and both made up into treads, panels and platforms to your sizes. Kenway is a solid sheet with raised holes. Raised expanded mesh is an open grid, so liquids and debris drain straight through.

Every strand sits at an angle, so the whole surface grips and lets mud and water drain through. 6240M is our standard walkway grade; 5230M and 7630M are lighter; 4530M is the heaviest and is made to order.

Made to measure

Treads and panels to your sizes

Tell us what the tread or panel has to do and we make it up for you. Kenway sheet and walkway mesh are cut, folded and drilled to your sizes, so the pieces arrive ready to bolt down.

  1. 1

    Stair treads

Folded with a downturned nosing at the front and an upstand at the back, with end plates drilled or slotted for bolting to stringers.

  2. 2

    Walkway panels

Single sheets, or mesh with folded side channels for stiffness. Kick-plates added if you need them, with lengths to suit your support centres.

  3. 3

    Platforms and landings

Panels cut around columns, pipes and openings from your drawing.

  4. 4

    Fixing holes and finish

Holes and slots where you need them. Mild steel comes self-colour, primed or hot-dip galvanised after fabrication; stainless and aluminium are left natural.

X, V and W should be 30mm or more, so the folds sit on plain metal. Bending and shearing between the perforated areas keeps the finish clean. If the treads must match an existing flight, send us a sketch or a photo with sizes.

When you ask for a price, it helps to tell us: what it is for (tread, panel or platform), the material and finish, the sizes V, W, X, Y and Z or a drawing, how many pieces, the span between supports and when you need them.

FAQ

Have a question we haven’t answered? Call or email and our sales team will talk it through.

What is Kenway?

Kenway is our raised perforated treadplate: 3mm sheet with 10mm holes on a 24mm pitch, each hole pressed up into a raised ring. We stock it in mild steel, 2500 x 1250mm sheets, and can get stainless 304 and aluminium in to order.

Kenway or raised expanded mesh?

Kenway is a solid sheet with raised holes. Raised expanded mesh is an open grid, so liquid and debris drain straight through and it is lighter to handle. Tell us where it is going and we will help you choose.

Can you make stair treads?

Yes. We fold treads from Kenway or walkway mesh with a nosing at the front and an upstand or flange at the back, with end plates drilled for bolting to stringers.

What sizes do you need for a tread?

The length (Z), the going (Y), the front flange (X), and the back flange (V) or back upstand (W). X, V and W should be 30mm or more.

Can you match an existing staircase?

Yes. Send us a sketch or photo of the existing tread with its sizes and we will make the new ones to match.

Do you deliver?

Yes, we deliver across the UK. Ring or email the sales office and we will price it with delivery. If you’re outside the UK, email us and we’ll let you know if we can help.

Tell us the surface, the material and either the number of full sheets or the tread and panel sizes. A drawing helps. We’ll come back with a price and a delivery date.
